- •1.5 tsp instant yeast (or 3 tsp dry yeast or 6 tsp fresh yeast)
- •1.5 tsp salt
- •200 ml lukewarm water
- •1 whole egg
- •40 ml milk (any type)
- •60 g unsalted butter (melted and cooled to room temperature)
- •vegetable oil (for frying)
- •300 g icing sugar
- •milk (as needed)
Instructions
- 1
In a bowl, place the flour, yeast, salt, and sugar.
- 2
Add the water, egg, milk, and butter and mix lightly with a spatula until it doesn’t help you anymore.
- 3
Finish mixing by hand or with a stand mixer using the dough hook attached.
- 4
If mixing by hand, knead for 20 minutes until the dough passes the windowpane test.
- 5
If using a stand mixer, mix on high speed for 10 minutes or until it passes the windowpane test.
- 6
Cover the dough with a thin layer of vegetable oil and place it in a bowl.
- 7
Cover it with a kitchen cloth and let it proof for one hour or until it has doubled in size.
- 8
Dust a surface with flour and place the dough on top, dusting some extra flour on the dough.
- 9
Roll it out until it's 5mm thick.
- 10
Use cookie cutters to make a large circle and then a smaller one in the center.
- 11
Place each donut on a piece of parchment paper.
- 12
Let them proof on the surface covered with a kitchen cloth for 30-45 minutes or until doubled in size.
- 13
Pour enough vegetable oil into a pot so that it is 4 fingers high, and heat it to 180°C/350°F.
- 14
With the help of the parchment paper, place a donut inside the hot oil and remove the paper.
- 15
Cook for 1-2 minutes per side or until golden.
- 16
Remove the donut and place it onto a cooling rack.
- 17
Wait for the donuts to cool down completely before glazing.
- 18
Sieve the icing sugar into a bowl.
- 19
Add the milk little by little while whisking until the right consistency is achieved.
- 20
Cover the donuts completely in the glaze.
- 21
Let the excess glaze drip off by placing the donuts on a cooling rack.
